Fundraising has gotten to be a drag for lots of nonprofit staff and volunteers lately.

I hear regularly from folks who are frustrated and it’s saddens me because I know it doesn’t have to be that way.

Ready to put the ‘fun’ back into fundraising?

First, you must realize that if you’re doing things the same way you always have, it’s probably time to change things up.

Times have changed and so have many of your donors.  The way you raise money must change too.

Have a hard look at what you’re doing and evaluate what’s working for you and what isn’t.  Time to let go of what isn’t working anymore.

Next, have a look inside yourself.  If you’re trudging around with a bad attitude about your job or your work, NOTHING will be fun.

Do you need a little attitude shift?  Sometimes a small shift on the inside of us makes a big difference in everything else.  Be grateful for people who are supporting your organization and try to look on the bright side of every situation.

Last, find little ways everyday to put some joy into your life and the lives of those around you.  Literally stopping to smell the roses might be just the ticket for you.  Enjoying a scenic vista, petting your cat, watching a baby laugh… these are all things that can bring us joy if we just stop for a moment and let them.

Keep your eyes focused on what you’re trying to achieve and who you’re trying to help. That alone can help you stay positive.
